Welcome to SexPlus Week 2026!
As we enter SexPlus Week, we are experiencing both excitement and sadness. We feel hopeful about what is ahead, while also caring deeply about the changes happening at Options, including the reduction of some clinic services. It feels important to be honest about this. Our work in sexual health has always been rooted in knowledge, care, and transparency, even when things are complex or hard.
We also want to be clear that our Sex Sense, Education, and Community Engagement programs continue at the same level of service. We are grateful that the BC Government has recognized these programs as vital and has increased our core funding to support this work.
This year’s SexPlus Week theme, Sexual Health and AI, encourages us to look ahead while still focusing on accurate, fact-based information. Artificial intelligence already plays a big role in how people learn about their bodies, relationships, and identities. People use search engines, chat tools, and social media every day to find answers. At the same time, technology can shape who gets good information, who is left out, and whose stories are seen or missed. At Options, we see this as a chance to ask better questions, challenge myths, and explore how technology can support choice, fairness, and access to sexual health information.
Throughout the week, we will explore these ideas in many ways. This includes a panel discussion, community events, a refreshed blog series, and the launch of a new interactive myth-busting social media campaign. These activities reflect what has always guided our work: meeting people where they are and responding to real questions in ways that feel relevant and accessible.
At the same time, we know that this SexPlus Week comes during a time of major change for our organization. The closure of clinics and the loss of staff is deeply felt. Clinics are not just buildings. They are trusted spaces in communities. Our staff are not just positions. They are caring, skilled people who have supported others, sometimes for decades. We are deeply grateful to everyone affected by these changes.
SexPlus Week is not about ignoring this reality. It is about remembering why this work matters, even when things change. We remain committed to sexual health education, accurate information, and finding new ways to support communities.
As we move through this week, we invite you to join us in learning, reflection, and care for one another. Together, we can honour what has come before, support those impacted now, and imagine a future where sexuality and its diversity are respected and valued.
With Gratitude,
Tiffany Melius
