Advocacy: Opt2Act

Advocacy is the pursuit of influencing opinions, individual behaviour, and organizational conduct to achieve social change. Desired outcomes include influence on public policy, law, and resource allocation. Advocacy often occurs in the context of activities intended to educate and inform, while at other times may involve non-partisan political dialogue.

School sexual health education

In 2002, the Provincial Board of Options for Sexual Health launched an advocacy initiative to improve the quality of sexual health education in BC schools. Since that time, Opt has held a consensus conference on the issue, produced toolkits for parents and youth to assist them in their own advocacy efforts, and mailed a flyer to 1.2 million homes in BC to increase awareness about sex education.
