Join the HYP!

We think sexual and reproductive health, justice, and freedoms are important, what about you? With our annual HYP Breakfast, Options for Sexual Health raises awareness and funds to support access to sexual health care and education throughout the province of BC. This is our annual fundraiser, and it is a great way to connect with like-minded folks over breakfast while listening to amazing speakers and champions, all while supporting Options!

What is HYP?

The HYP Breakfast is our annual fundraiser and brings those involved in the sexual health, social activism, and social justice communities together to focus our attention to sexual health awareness, advocacy, and celebration. Every year we look forward to providing an engaging event that inspires people to take action and advocate for access to sexual health services and information. Join the HYP, and show your support for sexual and reproductive justice in British Columbia!

New Date!

We know you might have been wondering why we changed the date when all of the past five HYP breakfasts had taken place in February during Sexual and Reproductive Health Week in Canada. In 2019 we decided to utilize Sexual and Reproductive Health Week to get active in our communities, including education, outreach, and community services. After reviewing feedback from previous years, we opted to move our breakfast to the Fall so more people could attend, and not be in conflict with Valentine’s Day.

Accessibility Information:

When we choose venues we aim to be as accessible and inclusive of all folks as we can be. When we are able to hold HYP in person, we are at the Italian Cultural Centre which is accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, and is on the main floor of the building (i.e., no stairs). We also request that attendees avoid wearing fragranced products such as perfume or cologne or essential oils in support of our attendees with scent sensitivities and allergies.

We continue to strive to improve accessibility at our events.

Our very first sexual health champion in 2013 was Dan Savage, long-time advice columnist, and all-round sexual health educator.

2015 we honoured Scarleteen’s Heather Corinna

2016 we honoured the then Executive Director of PIVOT Legal Society, Katrina Pacey

2017 we honoured Tru Wilson, youth advocate for trans rights

2018 we honoured Dr. Gina Ogilvie, doctor and sexual health researcher and advocate

2019 we honoured the Willow Clinic for their work in reproductive health and abortion access.

Who will our 2020 recepient be? Stay tuned!
