The breakfast was largely attended by the who’s who of the Sexual and Reproductive health community, and it was amazing to see so many connections being made, and laughs shared over the delicious buffet selections served to us by the Marriott Pinnacle Chefs. We also had our Heart your Parts photo contest winners and the Georgia Straight contest winner in attendance.
From the sweet serenading songs of cabaret duo The Wet Spots, to the compelling words of Dan Savage, the breakfast was entertaining from start to finish. Kathryn Gretsinger provided MC duties, while Jennifer Breakspear, Executive Director, and Unjali Malhotra, Medical Director, provided organizational and clinical updates respectively. Dr. Malhotra also announced our year long Heart your Parts campaign, 52 Clinics in 52 Weeks.
With humour and passion, Dan told the tale of how he became the famed advice columnist, activist, and sexual champion that he is today. Dan’s engaging speech brought laughs, a few tears, and even some of the advice he is so famous for giving. We could tell by the looks on the faces of those in attendance that Dan’s words made an impact.
As the first annual breakfast finished, many attendees lined up for their opportunity to talk to and take pictures with Dan Savage.
We had a great time with everyone, celebrating Sexual and Reproductive Health Day, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year. Make sure to mark your calendars for February 12, 2014!
