Easy-to-understand information about sexual and reproductive health rights in Canada is not readily available, even in our two Official Languages. Imagine if you are new to Canada, trying to learn a new language and how a completely new society operates, and unfamiliar with your rights to health care and personal protection.
With support from the Law Foundation of British Columbia OPT undertook a project to provide accessible legal information about sexual and reproductive health rights to the general public, including individuals of diverse cultures.
The project included gathering the voices of many women between the ages of 18-55 years from the Canadian, South Asian, Chinese, and Filipino communities. A committee representative of those voices was created to identify the types of legal information about sexual and reproductive health rights, in relationships and within the health system, that individuals in diverse communities said was most important to them. This was done through questionnaires and focus group conducted in all four languages by facilitators from the Canadian, South Asian, Chinese, and Filipino communities.
