Let's do the math
There are about a quarter million students in BC's high schools and close to a half million more in kindergarten to grade 8. They are all entitled to the best sexual health education we can give them but they aren't all getting it.
We know that 4 in 5 of you support publicly funded comprehensive sexual health information in school1. Parents and students told us they want more input into sexual health education. And over 75% of adults think youth should have a significant voice in the sex ed they receive2.
Let's work together
Our 2004 research, using Health Canada's Guidelines for Sexual Health Education as a benchmark, assessed the effectiveness of sexual health education in BC schools. We asked parents, students, health care professionals teachers and administrators what they thought.
The conclusion: it's clear we have some homework to do.
You can help!
In 2005, Options for Sexual Health publicly launched our advocacy campaign for quality, comprehensive sex education in BC. We created some tools to help parents, youth and others advocate too.
